A review of 2020 and our genuine hope for 2021….
Three major events have captured most of the headlines during 2020, these being Covid-19, Brexit, and the US elections.
The UK’s long-awaited post-Brexit trade deal with Brussels is said to have delivered a ‘historic resolution’. Whatever your political stance may be, from a business perspective this does represent a clear set of rules and will provide the UK and Europe with the stability and direction we all need to trade and prosper.
Similarly, regardless of your party politics, President Biden (elect) should bring a degree of stability that the trade and financial markets prefer in this next phase of a post Covid crisis- whenever we get there!
Covid-19 was and remains the unwanted focus of 2020 and will continue to be during the coming year. Rather than dwell on the well documented financial and personal health impacts of this pandemic we reflect here on some of the heroes and successes.
NHS, care workers and support staff- we all owe a huge debt to the people who put themselves at risk every day for the greater good of our society.
‘Essential workers’ in particular we focus on and thank my own area of specialism i.e.: those working in the Logistics and Distribution sector. Finally, this essential profession has gained the recognition it so richly deserves.
Technology- here we include praise to the British (and other) scientists and pharmaceutical experts for developing vaccines in record time- simply awe inspiring.
Also, the advances in all sorts of technological changes demonstrate real hope that we can, and do, adapt. The ‘working from home’ culture, virtual meetings, and speed of accepting such changes demonstrates how business will succeed again.
SJL Advisory have been proud to have:
- Helped the Logistics sector adapt to the challenges of the pandemic.
- Secure funding for businesses to protect their long-term futures.
- Worked with businesses and Owner-Managers to review their Business Plans.
- Found and secured a new operating centre for a client.
- Provided mentoring for University students and much more.
We wish all our clients, contacts, and future clients a hopeful and safe 2021. Remember it makes economic and practical sense to seek professional support whether this is at Board level, personal mentoring or project based.
The economy needs rebuilding; there is a need for good governance and risk management.
There will be opportunities to strengthen your competitive position. Whether this is via growth, Mergers and Acquisitions or personal development, SJL Advisory are here to help.
