Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change

“Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change” – Stephen Hawking.

As sobering as the thought is of a second wave of Covid-19 causing even more economic & social hardship, businesses & individuals must learn to adapt & create their best chance of future success.

We continue to see the economic data, the forecasts for recovery & the sheer toll on job numbers is of great concern.

However, despite all of this many companies are innovating and adapting to the growth of online ordering, the working from home culture & starting to seek out opportunities for growth.

There are trends in many sectors that have been accelerated by Covid-19, such as a shift towards B2C deliveries or the acknowledgment by some employers that they can actually trust their employees to work from home & save money on the commuting & huge office overheads.

Reflecting on previous Blogs, the message is that as individuals & businesses we need to adapt quickly & take advantage of any opportunities that present themselves.

SJL Advisory are currently supporting businesses looking to grow & acquire, as well as those having to adapt their Business Plans to respond to the market.

Steve Jobs said that “Ideas without action aren’t ideas, they’re regrets” so whether you are an Owner-Manager, SME, or large business, consider obtaining some quality external support to ensure your ideas get transformed into actions.

Recently my last mentee acknowledged the support he received during his final year at Wolverhampton University, by participating in the IoD mentoring initiative, and he overcame some personal hurdles to achieve a 1st – an inspiring example of improving his chances through education and application!

Education & training stretches you as an individual whether a mentor or a mentee. By being exposed to learning you can gain an insight into your potential, what drives you and identify your personal goals.

For individuals who may find themselves in the job market, or students considering their future careers, please practice continual professional development (CPD) as this keeps you current & enhances your future chance of success.

“Knowledge is like money: to be of value it must circulate, and in circulating it can increase in quantity and, hopefully, in value” Louis L’Amour
